By Nick Cochart. “Ambitious goals often prompt ambitious action. If you link that ambitious action with meaningful partnerships and relationships you are bound to improve. Whether you choose to improve personally, socially, structurally, systematically, or functionally you are going to face obstacles. A team of dedicated individuals undoubtedly achieves more than the narrow approach of an individual mind. Embrace a collective vision, developed through ideas fostered by lived experience and a societal disposition to improve and you have the capital necessary for broad improvement.
On a personal level, I do not take for granted the opportunities I have been afforded and therefore focus my effort on leaving everything I touch better than when I found it. That is not to say anything was ‘wrong’ with Algoma but rather addresses the opportunity that existed to improve. The space was available, I just capitalized on the opportunity.” Nick Cochart, 2016.
Live Algoma is driven by the desire to improve the health and well-being of our community. All of us. Linked. Not just those of us at risk for a given disease process or condition. We take a nontraditional, broad-view of health and well-being to bring about positive community change. Live Algoma includes resources that are not usually considered or activated in traditional public health improvement efforts. This approach works because we focus on the whole community. True wellness goes beyond the physical body and mind. It looks at our financial well-being, relationships with ourselves and others. We even include our environmental health, and our relationship with a Higher Power or generative leader. The model Live Algoma is developing is being noticed, studied, and analyzed to see if, and how, it can be replicated. Are the Algoma people, businesses, school and city infrastructure so different from other rural cities across the country and around the world? We believe we are more alike than we are different and other communities can benefit from what we have to offer. Live Algoma can provide a lens to see things differently to the betterment of all. We can all capitalize on this opportunity.
